Velvet saddle cloth Velvet saddle cloth
(1570 - 1599)

Unknown

An Ottoman saddle cloth made from two lengths of fabric sewn down the centre and woven with a mirror-image design on either side. A characteristic Ottoman flora of carnations, tulips with pomegranates proliferates from a central ogival cartouche. This exceptionally fine textile was probably never used and is in a pristine condition. Made in Bursa, late 16th c. H 186,5 cm. (ΓΕ_3784)
