A Fatimid ceramic bowl painted with monochrome lustre displays a giraffe with its groom by a tree on a background filled with contour panels decorated with the so-called peacock’s eye design. Giraffes were regarded as exotic and prestigious animals and were paraded on festival celebrations. From Egypt, 11th c. D 24 cm (ΓΕ_749)
