Johannes Bosschaert became acquainted with the craft of painting at a very young age through his father, Ambrosius Bosschaert the Elder (1573-1621). Between 1623 and 1628 he produced about twenty flower and fruit still lifes, all of them of high quality. His style is characterized by the exactitude of his drawings and the bright, radiant colours. His paintings have a smooth, almost enamelled, surface.
